The courses in the Online Sociology Major are taught with the same rigor as the traditional Main Campus courses, cover the same amount of course material, and are taught by the same faculty. The transcript for the Online Sociology major is the same transcript for the traditional Main Campus Major.

Yes.

Most students are transferring 60-64 credits to UNC Charlotte when they transfer an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a community college. These degrees fulfill your general education and foreign language requirements. Note: An A.A.S. or Associate of Applied Science degree does NOT automatically fulfill your general education requirement and foreign language requirements. Note: The Sociology B.A. requires 32 credits. You can fulfill your remaining credits by completing more Sociology electives or other courses offered by Distance Education.

You will not attend NSO in-person but you will be required to complete the Charlotte Online NSO modules.

The College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences requires that a foreign language courses be completed through the 1202 level. This requirement can be completed taking 1201 and 1202 of a foreign language. You have fulfilled the foreign language requirement by completing three years of the same foreign language in high school and submitting those credits on your high school transcript. You have fulfilled the foreign language requirement by transferring an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree to UNC Charlotte. It is strongly advised that you have this requirement fulfilled before declaring your Online Sociology major. Note: UNC Charlotte offers Spanish foreign language online courses online, or you can take other foreign language courses as a Main Campus student through UNC Online Language Exchange, or through your local community college.

Yes. SOCY 1101 – Introduction to Sociology is a prerequisite for most Sociology courses.

Yes. STAT 1222 – Introduction to Statistics or another statistics course) is a prerequisite for SOCY 4156 + lab – Quantitative Analysis.

Yes. SOCY 3153, SOCY 3155, and SOCY 4156 + Lab are prerequisites for SOCY 4699 Senior Seminar in Sociology.
