Sociology Department Annual Awards Ceremony 2024
The department holds a yearly awards ceremony to recognize and celebrate award and scholarship winners.
As a part of the ceremony, we inducted the new members of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD). AKD is an International Sociology Honors Society. The purpose of AKD is, “… to acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities that will lead to improvement in the human condition.” Requirements to be inducted into AKD include having a standing GPA of 3.3.
The following students were the AKD inductees for the 2023-2024 academic school year: Kierstan Aldridge, Jaylen Caldwell, Stephanie Hill, Mi’Ana Hillard, Priscilla Lara Polanco, Gray Lawson, Brittany Kimmer, Victoria Manson, Jessica Meryhew, Ian Miller, Mahala Milton, Viviana Montoya, Paulyn Denise Perez, Gabrielle Phillips, Mackenzie Pressley, Monica Rodriguez, Sammie Tate Jr., Allison Henandez-Octaviano, Catherine Merklee, Lucy Smith, Jade Suszek, Emma Toney, Crescent Williams and Jamel Catoe.
We also recognized William Papathanassiou who achieved Honors in Sociology. Along with meeting the list of requirements, including a standing gpa of a 3.2, honors sociology students must also complete nine hours of honors course work in Sociology as well as an undergraduate thesis.
